Meet the pastor

Rev.  Russell Atkinson joined the community of Drexel Hill United Methodist Church as its new pastor on July 3, 2016.  Rev. Atkinson previously served at Quakertown United Methodist Church in Quakertown, Pa.  He has been a minister for 29 years. He found God moving in his life most particularly through church music and hands-on mission experiences and he loves opening those experiences to others.

He is a graduate of Springfield High School and and served Swarthmore United Methodist Church from 2003-2013. Rev. Atkinson is married to Barbara J. Felton.

Community lunches

Until recently, Drexel Hill United Methodist Church offered a Community Lunch on the fourth Saturday of each month.

Visitors were invited to a free hot catered lunch and friendly fellowship to anyone in the community who wanted to attend.  Clothing and hygiene products are also provided to those in need.

Music program

Our church has always been proud of its musical heritage and continues to offer many different styles of music as part of the worship experience.  Musical Director Dan Matarazzo leads an adult choir, accompanied on piano, a 28-rank Moeller pipe organ and featured instruments.  An occasional vocal and bell choir performance by the children also enrich our services. Each May, the church choir performs an AIDS Benefit concert. Please feel free to listen to some of the music our church has to offer. All are welcome to become part of our musical program.

Nursery school

Welcome to the Drexel Hill United Methodist Nursery School at 600 Burmont Road.
Our Nursery School was founded to serve preschool children of our church and community.  We are a non-profit nursery
school that is sponsored by the Drexel Hill United Methodist Church.

  • At the Drexel Hill United Methodist Nursery School we provide a nurturing and loving environment where children learn and play together in harmony.

  • Each child will be treated with kindness, patience and courtesy.

  • Each child's individuality is respected and cherished.

  • Children will learn that acquiring skill and knowledge is fun.

  • We value play as the work of children.

Our goals include the ability to make friends and get along with others, growth in self confidence, self expression and the sharing of feelings, play, exercises, dance, and music, following directions, problem solving, basic skills and Christian values.

Community Outreach/Social issues

Our church is active on several fronts in the community and in addressing social issues such as gun violence. In April, the church hosted a Memorial to the Lost display highlighting local victims of gun violence. We also take an active role to end local hunger, help with disaster relief and work to help those in need, whether in our own neighborhoods or throughout the world.
